Susan and Steve Saks (interview 1999 photo 1999)
Susan and Steve moved into the neighborhood with their two children in 1992. She is a learning specialist, teaching children with learning disabilities. Steve works for NYC, supervising carpenters.
While relaxing on a bench in Fort Tryon Park and enjoying a slice of nature one fall day, they chatted a bit about their neighborhood:
Susan: "The best thing about our neighborhood is the wonderful river view that we have from our dining room/living room area. It's so peaceful and quiet, and you can see the changes in seasons, and the neighbors are friendly. It's a small community. We know everyone. We know the people at the grocers and at the newspaper stand, the people at the dry cleaner and even at the supermarket. It's wonderful! People say hello . . . we see each other from year to year, and it's also great because our children go to school not too far away from here. They get on the bus, and we know they're safe. It's a great neighborhood to live in and to raise children in."
Steve: "It's off the beaten track, it's sort of like a dead end. It's not a thoroughfare. People don't come through here on their way to somewhere else. It's a lot quieter that way."
